Aura. The word has been everywhere lately. On TikTok, on pitchside commentary, in the group chat after someone does something inexplicably cool or inexplicably awkward. People use it the way they once used charisma or presence or that thing, pointing at something they recognize immediately but cannot cleanly define.

The recognition is not new. Certain people have always drawn attention in ways that outrun obvious explanation. Not always the most powerful or the most beautiful. Something that does not map cleanly onto either. Different cultures developed different words for it: the Romans called it gravitas, the French prestance, and each word carried the concept only so far before the next culture reached for a new one.
